Key Differences[]
The key differences between the original Mega Man series (which I call the "Robot Timeline" or "Hardware Timeline") and the MMBN/MMSF series ("Program Timeline" or "Software Timeline"):
Robot Timeline | Program Timeline |
---|---|
Places have the same name from the real world | Places have fictional names |
Drs. "Right Light" and Albert W. Wily were possibly born and raised in North America | Drs. Tadashi Hikari and Wily were possibly born and raised in Japan (Electopia / Nihon) |
Dr. Light focused on robotics like his friend Wily | Dr. Hikari focused on programs, while Wily worked on robotics |
Thanks to both Light and Wily (although Light gains more credit, angering Wily), the robotics field becomes highly advanced | Dr. Hikari's project is selected instead of Wily's (making him bitter), and A.I. and internet advance more than robotics |
Although robotics is more advanced, advanced Cyberspace is also present (although not as much as MMBN), as seen in MMX4, MMXtreme, and MMZ3. Apparently little work was done in this field, and robotics advanced to the point of having bionics in nature | Although the cyberspace is more advanced, advanced robotics is also present (although not as much as original series), examples being the military machines in MMBN3 and the CopyBots/Copyroids. In 22XX they become obsolete due to Matter Waves, which are like "solid holograms" with varying functions |
Dr. Wily tried to conquer the world to show that he is superior to Dr. Light. Dr. Light is still alive. | Dr. Wily tried to destroy the world that choose Dr. Hikari over him. This happen after Hikari passed away, and Wily appears to be older than his original counterpart. As the period is similar, the two scientists may have born some years earlier. |
Nothing is known about Light's Wily's families. Dr. Cossack has a daughter. | Drs. Hikari and Wily have sons. Nothing is known about Cossak's family (unless one considers Bass.EXE as his "son"). |
Duo is a powerful alien robot | Duo is a gigantic and extremely powerful alien program |
Long period of war | Long period of peace |
No sights of aliens after 20XX (possibly lacking plans of making contact) | Aliens in 22XX (mainly due to WAZA/WAXA making contact with Planet FM) |
